Northwest Wine Night TV’s regular season runs fall through the spring
New Episodes released September – June
“Can someone please help me choose a good bottle of wine?”
How many times have you walked into a store needing a bottle of wine, only to be overwhelmed by the hundreds of bottles in front of you? After a few minutes, we all know what you do: You find a nice label, and hope for the best.
Here at Northwest Wine Night TV, we can relate. We’re not wine experts: We just love introducing you to good, locally produced wine.
That’s really what’s behind the concept of this Internet show. We love drinking wine, and we want to try locally made wines. The problem isn’t finding them, as there are well over 1200 wineries and vineyards in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia. We introduce them to you two at a time, so that next trip to the wine aisle isn’t as intimidating!
Northwest Wine Night TV
On each episode of Northwest Wine Night TV, our guest panel (from local TV, radio, and wine-making circles) tastes wines from all over the Pacific Northwest, and then talks about what they taste in the wine. Since all palates are different, our panelists are asked to focus on the things they like about each wine, arming you, the viewer, with some good information you can use next time you go to select your next bottle of locally made wine.
On each episode, we taste two reds of the same variety, or two whites of the same variety. Once they’ve been tasted, the panelists pick their favorite. Up to this point, our panel only knows the wine by their taste buds: This is a blind tasting. Then, our live audience members, who have been tasting the same wines, pick their favorite. Once the favorites are chosen, we reveal the names of the wines.
The idea is to introduce you to a handful of good wines, and offer feedback without any technical terms or snobby attitudes. You may ask “Why pick a favorite?” We want you to support the local winemakers and try all the wines, and our panels’ picks are simply meant as a guide to help you decide the wine you’d like to try first!
Filmed in Woodinville Wine Country
We partner with the largest wine making region in the state of Washington, home to over 100 wineries and tasting rooms. These wineries are all featured on the episodes of our show, which are filmed at Novelty Hill Januik winery and tasting room, featuring a fabulous event space in Woodinville Wine Country.
Host Brian Calvert
The reason we tapped Brian Calvert to host Northwest Wine Night TV is that he doesn’t know a lot about wine. He enjoys drinking it, but doesn’t get caught-up in the fancy terms. His easy-going interview style goes well with a glass of wine. And since he knows many of the panelists you’ll see on Northwest Wine Night TV, you’re bound to have a great time watching him interact with his friends as they introduce you to some of the best wines the Pacific Northwest has to offer!
Brian has spent his entire 20+ year career in front of you. He’s a longtime local news broadcaster and personality who has most recently worked at stations in Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington. He’s a national award-winning storyteller, and is best known for his warm smile and personal touch when telling a story. These days, Brian can be heard weekday mornings on KOMO in Seattle.
